In what could come as a major boost for London bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt after his dismal run at the Rio Olympics this year, the wrestler may soon turn an Olympic gold medallist after the London top medallist Toghrul Asgarov testing positive in a doping examination.
The development comes just days after the Indian athlete confirmed the upgradation of his London Olympics bronze to silver. However, his achievement could now escalate to the gold medal in the 60kg event held in 2012.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is likely to communicate the news to United World Wrestling (UWW) soon.
Before Dutt is handed over the gold, his samples of the 2012 Olympics will undergo a test.
However, a top official of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has said he isn’t aware of any such development.
Yogeshwar, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, confirmed that his medal has been upgraded from bronze to silver as the late silver medallist Russia’s Besik Kudukhov (60 kg) has been stripped of his medal for testing positive for doping.
The four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist Kudukhov, who had died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia, was been found positive for dope test conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
