Kolkata, May 7: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today said that she will not be in the race for the US presidency in 2016.

Asked whether she was would be a presidential candidate in the 2016 elections to become her country's first woman president, Clinton replied in the negative, saying “It's time for me to step off the highway.”

To a question at an interactive session whether she thought the US was ready for a woman president or was it a long way to go, she said, “I don't think so and I hope to see that happen in my lifetime.

“I think our political system is most difficult to navigate for both men and women, but particularly women,” Clinton said.

“We have a pretty hard glass ceiling in the US,” she said, explaining why the United States has not yet had a woman president.

“I want to come back to India and wander about without the streets being closed,” Clinton, who has been the US First Lady during her husband Bill Clinton's presidency, said in a lighter vein referring to the stringent security arrangements in the metropolis for her visit.
