Kolkata: Sir Donald Bradman never graced the Indian turf during his cricketing days but the game's afficianados in the ‘City of Joy' may get a glimpse of his accessories with Victoria Memorial in contention to host a ‘Bradman Memorabilia' exhibition next year.

Kolkata's 93-year-old iconic white marble has been spotted as the venue for the Kolkata leg of the exhibition which has been envisaged jointly by the Australia Heritage Commission and Don Bradman Foundation.

A four member team of the AHC and Bradman Foundation that also runs a museum in the legend's hometown Bowral in south of Sydney visited the Victoria Memorial Hall in the first week of August, Dr Jayanta Sengupta director Victoria Memorial Hall told PTI.

"They were here to check out Victoria Memorial as a possible venue for the Kolkata leg of the exhibition. They are looking for places in different cities and if Kolkata becomes one of the legs for the exhibition then Victoria Memorial would be the venue.

"Being a cricket historian and a big fan of Sir Bradman, I've expressed my keen interest to hold the exhibition here. The exhibition, if it takes place, will span from at least four to six weeks. It`s in a preliminary stage they are yet to send out a formal proposal and thereafter we need an approval from the Board of trustees.

"It's a long process and we have time as they intend to hold the exhibition sometime next year," Dr Sengupta added.

He further said the exhibition if takes place will be a major event as this will showcase not only the legend's cricket memorabilia but his personal letters, diaries and souvenirs gifted to him.

New Delhi, Mumbai and either Chennai or Bangalore are the other possible venues.
