New Delhi: Robin Uthappa has carried his rich vein of form into the Ranji Trophy, something he hopes will be enough to land him a spot in India's 15-member Cricket World Cup squad.

With the deadline of submitting the shortlisted squad to the ICC set for January 7, the fate of India's 30 World Cup probables will be decided soon.

Uthappa, who is one of the four-wicket keeping batsmen in the probables list, is keeping his fingers crossed besides staying in the moment.

"I hope so," Uthappa said when asked whether three fifties in as many Ranji Trophy games were enough for a ticket to the mega event in Australia and New Zealand.

The 29-year-old further said: "I would like to stay in the present and make sure I fulfil my role in the team (Karnataka). I have set certain standards for myself and I want to live up to those standards. I feel have the ability to play international cricket for a long time and that is how I base my standards on."

Uthappa's recent success have come as an opener and earlier in February he was recalled to play in what happened to be his first ODI in six years. Most recently, he was picked for the final two ODIs against Sri Lanka in November.

Talking more about his World Cup chances, Uthappa said he loves playing in Australia and he is open to perform any role in the side.

"When you are playing for the country, you don't get the liberty of choosing your batting position. It is just an honour to playing for your country. I am equipped to perform any role offered to me.

"Hopefully I will get the opportunity. I have always enjoyed plank in Australia. I like bouncy tracks, it suits my game," said Uthappa, who was part of the Indian team which won the tri-series in Australia in 2008.
