Hyderabad, Oct 12: Batsman Jonathan Trott believes England has the right mix of players and the talent needed to carry its success in test cricket into the one-day game.

“I think our lineup complements itself,” Trott told reporters Wednesday. “We've a got a blend of everything, a few guys like to work around and a few like to hit the ball hard.

“We'd set our targets for test match cricket and hopefully we can do it for one-dayers as well.”

England recently blanked India 4-0 in a home test series to claim the top ranking in the format. It also beat India 3-0 in a five-game one-day series and won a solitary Twenty20 game on the tour.

England, which is currently ranked fourth in one-day cricket, takes on world champion India in a five-game one-day series starting Friday and completes the tour with a Twenty20 game in Kolkata on Oct. 29.

Trott, who was last month named the International Cricket Council's cricketer of the year, said his own batting depended on the team's needs.

“I love scoring runs and contributing to the team. That is the recipe of my success,” he said. “It is fantastic that there is competition and I am always willing to change my batting according to the needs.

“I think I pick and play according to the right conditions. I know my game pretty well and am willing to work hard. I have to see how far I can go and I have done pretty well so far.”

Trott felt the Alastair Cook-led one-day team was shaping well in India after winning both its practice games and praised Jonny Bairstow for a 53-ball 104 not out against a Hyderabad XI on Tuesday.

“Bairstow was fantastic. He has a lot of talent. I can't recall, being at the other end, seeing someone hitting the ball so hard,” said Trott, who partnered Bairstow in a 143-run fourth-wicket stand.

England won the game by 253 runs after beating the same side by 56 runs in the first practice game on Saturday.

Trott said Bairstow also showed a good temperament to help clinch the final one-dayer against India last month when he struck a quickfire 41 not out off 21 balls on debut.

“He was very impressive at Cardiff. To come in and play your first game and perform in such a way shows big match temperament. Hopefully, he continues with it but it is not right keep pressure on him,” he added. AP
