Islamabad:  Shahid Afridi could face disciplinary action for creating a controversy over the captaincy of Pakistan for the Cricket World Cup.

Afridi, the 2011 World Cup captain, was stand-in skipper during the third one-day international loss to Australia on Sunday, and said afterwards that the Pakistan Cricket Board should decide now who will lead in next year's tournament because there's not much time left.

Afridi led in the final ODI after regular skipper Misbah-ul-Haq opted to sit out due to his poor batting form. PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan says, "Afridi knows what he should say and what he shouldn't, and in my opinion the things he said were irresponsible."

Khan says Misbah has been appointed as ODI captain until the World Cup, and if Misbah steps down then it has a contingency plan to appoint a new captain.
