New Delhi: Pakistan's coach Waqar Younis, after a whitewash in ODI series against Australia, is hopeful that Pakistan can make amends for their poor 50-over displays with victory in the Test series.

Australia were dominant in the one-day international series as they claimed a 3-0 success in the United Arab Emirates, earning a 93-run win in the opening meeting and a five-wicket triumph in the second.

Pakistan restored some pride in the final ODI showdown but lost by one run and will now seek to gain revenge when the two-match Test series begins in Dubai next Wednesday.

Australia go into the matches as the world's highest ranked Test side but Waqar believes his men are capable of providing a response to their recent humbling.

According to the sources Waqar said, "I am hoping for something good to happen in the Test."

"It's a different ball game and we have experience back in the side with Younis Khan and Azhar Ali, so I am hoping that we start delivering now.

"It's going to be hard and it's going to take a little time. It's a big hole when [Saeed] Ajmal is not there when you are playing on slow and dry pitches here."

The two have not met in the longest form of the game since 2010, with Pakistan having claimed a rare win in their most recent match at Headingley.

Pakistan will be playing the tests without their key players Mohammed Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Junaid Khan who are out due to injuries and the match winner Saeed Ajmal due to suspension.

The countries are now preparing for a two-match Test series which starts with the first Test in Dubai from October 22 under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq. The second Test will be played in Abu Dhabi from October 30. That will be followed by three Tests, five one-day internationals and two Twenty20s against New Zealand in November-December in the United Arab Emirates.
