Melbourne: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the 161-year-old Melbourne Cricket Ground during his trip here and pose for shutterbugs alongside his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott with the 2015 cricket World Cup trophy.

Modi today became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Australia in 28 years since Rajiv Gandhi in 1986.

Modi is scheduled to visit the MCG on Tuesday and attend two events hosted by Abbott at the ground.

A reception of over 700 guests and later a dinner with 500 attendees have been organised at the MCG on the last day of Modi's Australia tour.

However, Modi's busy schedule has not been able to fit in the MCG tour.

Incidentally, Modi has also included the World Cup winning Indian captain Kapil Dev in his delegation.

Modi is visiting Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne during his visit to Australia.

Modi reached Brisbane after attending the ASEAN-India summit and the East Asia Summit on November 12-13 in the Myanmarese capital Nay Pyi Taw.

The Prime Minister is on a 10-day visit of Myanmar, Australia and Fiji to attend key multilateral summits and undertake bilateral meetings.
