Adelaide: Cherishing his maiden wicket in Tests, India's debutant leg-spinner Karn Sharma expressed satisfaction at his opening day performance in the first cricket Test against Australia here Tuesday.

Karn finished the day with only a wicket, giving away 89 runs off his 23 overs but scalped the dangerous David Warner, who led the home team's charge with a superb 145-run knock off 163 balls and was threatening to take the game away from India.

“I am happy with my performance - I broke a crucial partnership - and I want to continue that,” he said.

Warner attempted to hit Karn out of the park, only to be caught at deep midwicket by Ishant Sharma. Becoming India's 283rd player to play Tests, Karn spoke of his conviction that his chance would come.

“I got to know in the morning that I would be playing. I was confident that sooner or later I would get a chance to play but to get it in the first Test of the series was very special.”

Karn hoped that the batting-friendly Adelaide track will also help spinners as the match progresses.

“The pitch is very good for batting. The ball is turning and there is not much bounce. On the third and fourth day the spinners will get good purchase,” he said.

“We are very happy to get those three wickets in the end and we will look to continue in that vein tomorrow morning. If we get two-three early wickets, we will be back in the game.”
