Bangalore: Lahore Lions captain Mohammad Hafeez has been reported for suspected illegal bowling action following his side's 16-run win over Dolphins in their Champions League Twenty20 match on Saturday.

On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Vineet Kulkarni, and third umpire Anil Chaudhary, reported Hafeez and Prenelan Subrayen of Dolphins to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the match.

Subrayen posted figures of 0-39 while Pakistan all-rounder Hafeez enjoyed a more successful outing, taking two wickets for the loss of just 18 runs.

Both Hafeez and Subrayen will be allowed to continue to bowl, but they have now been placed on a warning list, meaning they will be banned from doing so if another report is filed against them in a match organised by the BCCI.

A press release on the Champions League's official website read: “Lahore Lions bowler Mohammed Hafeez and Dolphins bowler Prenelan Subrayen were both reported by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Vineet Kulkarni, along with third umpire Anil Chaudhary, at the conclusion of the match.

“Under the CLT20 Suspected Illegal Bowling Action policy, Mr Hafeez and Mr Subrayen may request an Official Assessment from the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee.

“Both Mr. Hafeez and Mr. Subrayen have been placed on the warning list and may continue to be selected to play and bowl for their team in a match.

“Under the CLT20 Suspected Illegal Bowling Action policy, if a player receives a report while on the warning list, the player shall be suspended from bowling for the remainder of the tournament and from bowling in any matches organised by the BCCI until such date as he is cleared.”

The news will likely have little impact on Subrayen as Dolphins' loss saw the South African side eliminated from the competition.

However, Lions skipper Hafeez may now come under further scrutiny in his team's final Group A game against the Perth Scorchers, as they look to qualify for the semi-finals.
