New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written a letter to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) inquiring if December's bilateral cricket series between the two teams will be played or not.

"Politics is vulnerable to highs and lows and the sport of cricket should be kept away from it. Cricket is a tool to formulate peace between the countries," Pakistan newspaper The Express Tribune quoted PCB chief Shaharyar Khan as saying.

Recently, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur had said that 'cricket and terror cannot go hand in hand', thereby placing a question mark over India's upcoming series against Pakistan in December.

Khan also expressed hope that Thakur will be able to convince the Government of India to play the gamer.

Khan, a former foreign secretary and a diplomat, said that strained relations should not affect cricket.

"While relations between Pakistan and India have seen its share of ups and downs, cricket should be kept out of it," he said.

India and Pakistan played a bilateral series last time in 2012-13 and there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of six series which is applicable until 2022.

Pakistan was to play host to India in December 2015 as part of the new Future Tours Programme (FTP) system of cricket's world governing body, ICC. The series involved three Tests, five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
