Dhaka, Bangladesh: Sri Lanka capitalized on winning the toss in good bowling conditions, reducing host Bangladesh to 72-4 by lunch on Monday's opening day of the first test.

Shaminda Eranga led the way with figures of 2-21, with Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews both claiming a wicket.

Bangladesh's debutant opener Shamsur Rahman scored 33, but the other top batsmen all failed: Tamim Iqbal, Marshall Ayub and Moninul Haque all failed to make double figures.

Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim reached lunch on 15 and 8 runs respectively.

Sri Lanka's pacemen bowled well, peppering the Bangladeshis with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries, but the hosts contributed to their failures with loose shots.

Iqbal scored just 6 when he was out trying to pull a short-pitched Eranga delivery, holing out to Lakmal, who took a well-judged catch at the boundary rope.

Marhall Ayub played down the wrong line and was out lbw to Mathews on 1. Eranga then claimed the key wicket of a fluent Rahman, with Kithuruwan Vitanaghe taking a catch at gully.

Mominul Haque, who was on top form against New Zealand in the previous series, made just 8 before also being undone by an attempted pull off Lakmal, with Vitanaghe taking a diving catch at square leg.
