Riding on Ravichandran Ashwin’s 7/83, India outplayed West Indies by an inning and 92 runs, thereby registering their biggest win outside Asia.

Ashwin produced an off-spin bowling masterclass and triggered a second-innings slide that saw the hosts collapse from 88/2 to 132/8 on the fourth and penultimate day.

Meanwhile, he achieved a rare feat by becoming the first Indian player to score a century and take a five-wicket haul, not once but twice.

Scoring a marvellous 113 runs in the first innings of the Antigua Test match, Ashwin grabbed seven wickets giving away 83 runs in the second innings of Caribbean side leading India to a huge victory.

Interestingly, Ashwin has so far scored three centuries in Test cricket and all of them have come against West Indies. Moreover, this was his first five-wicket haul outside the subcontinent.

Earlier, he had scored a century and taken five wickets in the same innings against the West Indies in Mumbai.

The top-ranked all-rounder in the world is only the third Indian to achieve the rear feat after Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad.

Umrigar smashed an unbeaten 172 and grabbed five wickets for 107 runs against the West Indies in Port of Spain in 1962, whereas Mankad scored 184 runs and took 5/196 against England at Lord’s in 1952.

England’s legendary all-rounder Ian Botham has, however, done it five times during his Test career.
