Mohali: Virat Kohli leads from front as India enter semis in style beating Australia by six wickets. In an explosive win against the fierce rivals, Man-of-the-Match Kohli yet again emerged as India's saviour as Men-in-blue chased down 161 with five balls remaining.
Seem to be struggling at one point, India bounced back in the 18th and 19th over with Kohli raining fours and sixes. Before this, Yuvraj Singh supported him to his best before getting injured and eventually getting out for his team's benefit.
Winning runs, as usual, came from captain MS Dhoni's bat in the last over.
India, after a brisk start in their 161-run chase against Australia, lost Shikhar Dhawan (13 off 12 balls) and Rohit Sharma (12 off 17 balls). Suresh Raina soon followed the openers as he departed for 10 off 7 balls.
Before, Australia concluded their innings at 160 runs in the virtual quarterfinal match of the ICC World Twenty20 2016 at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali.
Australia, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, took a flying start against fierce rivals India, crossing 50-run mark in just four overs.
Indian bowlers, however, made quite a come back and managed to restrict the Aussies at 160, who at one point of time were looking to go past 200.
Hardik Pandya made two dismissals while Nehra, Bumrah, Ashwin and Yuvraj got one wicket each.
Aussie openers Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch smashed Indian bowlers in the power-play overs. Khawaja's three consecutive boundaries to Jasprit Bumrah ensured a solid start for the Kangaroos.
Ashish Nehra came to India's rescue and dismissed the danger-man Khawaja for 26 off 16 balls.
Soon to follow was David Warner who surrendered before R. Ashwin for 6 off 9 balls. Yuvraj Singh, in his first over itself, got rid of the Aussie captain Steve Smith for 2 off 6 balls.
Opener Aaron Finch continued to bat from one end and kept the scoreboard ticking. Glenn Maxwell stayed on the crease for a while with Finch and they together gave back the lost momentum to the Australian inning.
Hardik Pandya dismissed Finch for 43 off 34 balls while Maxwell was sent back to the pavilion by Bumrah for 31 off 28 balls.
