]]> PTI http://www.indiatvnews.com/sports/cricket/ipl-csk-owner-meiyappan-arrested-in-ipl-betting-case-8094.html Mumbai: Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan and owner of Chennai Super Kings, was arrested tonight for his alleged involvement in IPL betting scandal, raising serious doubts about continuance of the franchise in the hugely popular T20 league.  Meiyappan was arrested after nearly two-and-a-half hours of questioning that began at 9.30 pm.

“We have interrogated Gurunath based on information we have. We found his involvement in the offence related to IPL betting case we have registered. We have placed him under arrest,” Joint Commissioner (crime) Himanshu Roy told reporters.

Roy said Meiyappan will be produced before a metropolitan court tomorrow.

The 35-year-old top honcho of CSK, twice IPL champions, was in the eye of a huge storm after actor and TV reality show winner Vindoo Dara Singh, arrested for his alleged links to bookies, admitted to having placed bets on his behalf. 

Vindoo, winner of reality show Bigg Boss season 3 and son of late wrestler-actor Dara Singh, was allegedly in “frequent touch” with Meiyappan during the IPL matches and was claimed to have told Mumbai crime branch that the CSK owner had lost Rs 1 crore through betting.

The crime branch, according to sources, had call data records of conversations between Vindoo and Meiyappan and they are learnt to have confronted the two with the transcripts.

The report said, the ‘gifts’ were dispatched by Pawan Jaipur, a bookie who has since been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch.

“The consignment was handed over by Pawan to Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh, who was to deliver it to Rauf. Rauf was in Delhi for a match and was staying at a five-star hotel there,” said a Crime Branch official.

Vindoo passed on the task to Prem Taneja, a Delhi-based businessman.But before he could deliver the gifts to Rauf, Crime Branch officials arrested him.

“With Taneja being accused, the consignment which he was to deliver to Rauf is still lying in the air cargo at Delhi airport,” a source from the Crime Branch revealed.

Meanwhile, Mumbai model Leena Kapoor, who had accused umpire Asad Rauf of sexual exploitation last year and later retracted,  has said that if the police had taken her complaint seriously, Rauf would have thought twice before committing more crimes.

The Oshiwara-based model told a Mumbai tabloid Mid-Day how people of questionable background used to often come and meet Rauf.

“Several people used to come to meet him. The meetings were always held in a different room. I was always kept away from these meetings. When I was once in his room soon after we first met in Sri Lanka, some men came with a briefcase. This was followed by a closed-door meeting in the next room”, Leena Kapoor said.

Leena had filed a criminal complaint against Rauf last year, but she later withdrew her complaint earlier this year.

Leena says that she took the decision under duress, having received threat calls after she filed her complaint.

“I was under tremendous pressure. He is a powerful man in Pakistan with lots of political backing. I was forced to withdraw my complaint,” she said, adding, “I was struggling in Bollywood, and with this kind of controversy, it is difficult to focus on work.”

Speaking to MiD DAY following the controversial umpire’s withdrawal from next month’s Champions Trophy in UK, Kapoor rued that Rauf’s prompt arrest on the basis of her complaint last year could have deterred him from committing crimes.

The Indo-French girl Ishq (Preity Zinta) meets Akash (Rehan Malik) in Paris and spent an evening travelling the local streets. They explore the city and their love. Or will they?

They part and reunite at a mutual friend’s wedding in Paris. But the question is again the same. Will the two fall in love? This is all about how the story deals with.

Director Prem Raj brings forth the two parallel commuters who are totally opposite each other. The giggle, play pranks, Akash flirting with the lady and that’s it. He doesn’t move forward as he doesn’t believe in relationship. Similarly Ishq too is casual, in fact, is afraid of commitments.

Till this point, the story appears to be out of a modern-age with some eye-candy views of Paris. Though it is all the more a Preity Zinta show all over, who slays everyone with her dimple smile, but that’s not enough to hold you to your seats for 1 hour 30 minutes run time.

The modern age love story, which could have been explored with some mature ideas, is driven badly by a melodramatic conclusion.

And that is amusing and old-fashioned.  Ishkq won’t fall in love with Akash, because her French mother was ditched by her Indian father. Well that’s humorously sad.

Salman Khan’s cameo in a wedding number is what keeps you hooked which comes in the final minutes.

The cinematography is decent with beautiful locations, while the editing is crisp. Music is not memorable. Just adds to the scenes.

Rehan Malik doesn’t quite convince with his raw acting skills. He may be able to impress Preity, but not us.

Preity. as told earlier. is the only savior of the drama which is already sinking.  She makes her appearance after a long time and shimmers once again.

And it’s just her screen presence which gives ‘Ishkq in Paris’ two stars. Enter the theatres, only if you missed her.

The hot wheels with hot ladies and handsome guys are back and it bets to give anyone a run for their money.

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) aka Dom’s team is backed by Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to stop the unstoppable rash-driving criminals headed by Shaw (Luke Evans) in London. But why would the international retired criminal Dom help Hobbs to chase those criminals?

Well, because he has pictures which shows her dead girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) alive. And she is now the part of Shaw’s furious little army. From its last destination in Tokyo, the  Fast 5 the franchisee is now in London.

So, they are all set to destroy the streets there and obviously would come out with flying colours. Director Justin Lin knows what the car freaks demand and he gives them.

What it takes to produce better than each franchisee is more action, more gizmos like wheelers, more mesmerizing locations, more brutality, and it just adds to blend it perfectly.

But despite more of everything, it just doesn’t make it a better combat than the previous five instalments. Yes, it’s a no-brainer action-packed extravaganza but how about if a teenage grasp and mind the little things which are not paid attention.

The two sequences in the flick are worth all  your money spent on the ticket. A chase scene between Dom’s team and Shaw demonstrates some jaw opening and edge-of-the-seat thriller in this torturous summer.

The sequence of a  tank destroying every precious cars like converting them into crushed tins is brilliant. That looks feasible even after we know that is finally initiated through high octane special effects. But  the makers just missed out in the final encounter which was supposed to be a breakthrough.

The cargo- airplane running over the never ending or extended runway of the London Military base camp shortens the excitement. Over that drowning that impossible big cargo into the Earth looks cold.

Rock pointing his gun to the head of the senior official of his department looks so uneasy.

But Fast And Furious  fans won’t mind that. They have all other reasons to shed money and enjoy this roller coaster ride. Jokes about baby oil and big foreheads are very funny.

Cars, of course, are the most important thing, and of course there are no speed limits. Weapons come next on the list, and the bigger the better. One-on-one physical combat, bald heads are surprisingly effective.

I’ll go with three stars for this VRRROOOMMMM! WHOOOOSSHHH!! Fast 6.0, go grab your seat. You won’t be disappointed.

It would have been very trouble-free for the daughter-in-law of the ruling political family of Uttar Pradesh to sit back and lead a cozy life as a homemaker  but what was remarkable in Dimple’s life was her unwillingness to let her individuality weaken.


The 35-year old Dimple Yadav hailed from an army background and was brought up in  different places like Bhatinda, Lucknow and Andaman and Nicobar islands.

She has a hunger for books and is a brilliant painter.


Her life was going smooth and usual only till late 1990s when she met Akhilesh, the man of her dreams. Akhilesh, who was studying engineering, was struck by Dimple’s beauty and simplicity.


Little had Dimple known that her life was going to take a 360 degree turn. Dimple and Akhilesh tied the  knot at the onset of winter in November, 1999.

Ever since then, Dimple not only took over Akhlesh’s personal matters but also took charge of his official affairs.


She rigorously campaigned for Akhilesh in the 2012 assembly elections. Her efforts behind Akhilesh’s every election rally were so unmistakable that the credit for Akhilesh’s victory was to a very high extent put into Dimple’s account.


It does not end here. What makes her image even more mighty and strong is her run for elections in the year 2009. Coming from a non-political background, politics was not Dimple’s cup of tea, yet her zeal to contest elections  wass commendable.


Although she lost the  2009 elections from Firozabad in the face of  actor turned politician Raj Babbar, she never gave up on politics.

The Firozabad seat was won by her husband the same year in the general elections. Akhilesh contested elections and won two seats, Firozabad and Kannauj leading to his evacuation of Kannauj seat.


In the 2012 by-poll elections, Dimple won the Kannauj seat unopposed making her the first female candidate to be elected unopposed in Lok Sabha by-poll elections from Uttar Pradesh.

She left a trail in the corridors of politics at the same time managing her family with full efficiency.


Dimple’s affection towards her three kids and husband has been evident when her husband over and over says `shaadi karke toh kismat khul gayi (got lucky as soon as I got married)''.

Sana's cousin Naved and his three  friends were arrested, and are now out on bail.

The case was registered on April 30 in Durbhe Police station of Navi Mumbai.  Naved fell into a romantic liaison with the minor girl through Facebook last year and proposed marriage, which she refused.

The minor girl's family alleged that on April 30, Sana with her cousin Naved and his friends Kshitij, Vismit and another person went to Sanpada and tried to abduct the girl by forcing to sit in their car. The girl managed to escape and her mother lodged a complaint in Turbhe police station. Naved and his three friends were arrested, but Sana gave police the slip.

Police went to Sana's Oshiwara house but she was not there. The long-pending issue related to the vehicle, over which the auto industry was divided, has now been settled with the road transport and highways ministry announcing that the quadricycle will be allowed to ply as a transport (commercial) vehicle carrying both passenger and goods within city limits and on rural roads.

The basic concept of a ‘quadricycle’ is that it is a four-wheel vehicle with a small engine, and is positioned between a three-wheeler and a passenger car. So far, only Europe has a quadricycle segment with the Renault Twizy being one example.

Bajaj Auto has already invested Rs 550 crore in developing the platform and created enough capacity to produce 5,000 quadricycles a month and will likely launch its product (RE60) soon after the government notifies its decision.

"A separate category has been proposed for notification to include quadricycle with specifications adopting present norms notified in the three-wheeler category of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), or the European Union quadricycle, whichever is more stringent," a road transport ministry statement said.

However, it is not a free run for quadricycles in India, as they need to be registered as commercial vehicles, and the driver has to have a valid driving licence and every such vehicle must have a first aid box. In Europe, there is no such norm. It means that these vehicles cannot be run on highways or for personal use. He came into the spotlight  with his encounter with a Customs officer. A senior Customs officer raided him, when he was smuggling some goods. In the scuffle, he was trapped inside a room.  Being of shorter height he jumped out of the window into  the sea only to return with more of his men to intimidate the customs officer and claim back his booty.

His father Babu Shaikh, 79, died in 2011 at  Ismailia hospital in Mazgaon. Chhota Shakeel has a younger brother named  Anwar and two sisters  Fahmida alias Fammu and Hamida. He ran his boss Dawood Ibrahim’s vast empire from Dubai for several years.

In 2004 the court of special Pota judge Sonia Gokani declared Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel along with 35 others as ‘proclaimed offenders’ in the ISI conspiracy case . Judicial process in this direction was moved by an application made a by ACP (Crime) G L Singhal about a week back.

Chhota Shakeel has been  into real estate development in Mumbai through front companies. In 2006  there was news that  Dawood, his brothers Anees and Noora, and Chhota Shakeel had shifted base from Dubai to Pakistan  as there were indications that the extradition treaty between India and the UAE was to be signed.

In September 2000, Chhota Shakeel admitted to having planned an attack on Chhota Rajan.
