Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said India's global standing has enhanced with the UN designating June 21 as the International Yoga Day.

“Many good things and practices have originated in India, which the world has embraced. This testifies that ancient Indian science and practices are a matter of great pride,” Chouhan said at the 132 annual award distribution ceremony of Daly College here.

“India has been earning global fame. On the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 177 nations endorsed the proposal to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day. This proves that Yoga is a scientific practice.

“Yoga is an art of living and the world has accepted this fact. The message of peace, non-violence that originated from India was imbibed by the world. India is on the fast track of development and the world has started realising the country's strength,” he said.

Chouhan said just as the Prime Minister is making a strong pitch for ‘Make in India', the state was working on ‘Make in Madhya Pradesh' to attract investment in the state. He said that although Madhya Pradesh was once derisively called a BIMARU state, since the last eight years, the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been clocking a double digit growth.

“This year the state GDP was 11.08 per cent - highest in the country. The agriculture growth rate has been spectacular 24.99 per cent this year, whereas in the corresponding years it was 20 and 18.91 per cent respectively,” he said.

According to Chouhan, students of the economically weaker sections of the society were being given coaching at renowned institutes in the state to crack all-India level tests to become India Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS) officers.

Likewise, the state was facilitating loan ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs one crore to the young entrepreneurs.
