Patna: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said his government will “rise to the challenge” posed by insurgents and “decimate extremism and Maoist violence in the state within six months”.

“Law and order and security in the country is the first priority of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Jharkhand government will rise to the challenge posed by Maoists. We will decimate extremism and Maoist violence in the state within six months,” Das said.

“The ‘Karo - 2' operation against the Maoists is already going on. We appeal to those who have gone astray in Jharkhand not to challenge law and order in the state, else we will teach them a lesson,” he said.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people who have joined Left Wing Extremism (LWE) to lay down the arms and return to mainstream society.

“Extremists have already started adhering to our advice. A few days ago three extremists belonging to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) surrendered to join the mainstream society in the state,” Das told media persons after attending the 21st meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC) chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Patna.

Jharkhand is considered among the worst naxal-infested states, and witnessed over 300 incidents of Maoist violence in which around 80 persons including civilians and security personnel lost their lives in 2014.

Das said that his government is also paying utmost attention to terrorism and pointed out that three terrorists, including most wanted Rezaul Karim, were arrested recently in connection with the Burdwan bomb blast case.
