New Delhi: Implementing the Prime Minister's vision to provide effective healthcare to all would be his top priority, says newly-appointed Health Minister J P Nadda, who feels that Narendra Modi has reposed confidence in him by giving him the key ministry.

Nadda, considered as a trusted lieutenant of Modi, said he has already started an exercise to have an in-depth understanding of the issues pertaining to the health sector and will come out with his plans shortly.  He also said he will adopt a holistic approach to ensure improved healthcare facilities across the country.

“The Prime Minister have reposed lot of confidence in me.  Our president Amitbhai Shah has also been showing me the right direction. So I will try my best to live up to their expectations,” he told PTI, a day after taking charge of the ministry.

The 53-year-old BJP general secretary, who replaced Harsh Vardhan as Health Minister, said Modi has a “vision” for the health sector and listed improving the healthcare facilities across the country as a priority area.

“My utmost priority would be to implement the Prime Minister's vision. After, say a month, we will be in position to tell how we will go forward,” he said.  Asked to list out the priority areas for the ministry, he refused to elaborate saying, “I am a very tight-lipped person.  I mostly believe in doing things.”

Indicating that things will move fast and he was determined to bring about changes, Nadda, seen as a member of the most powerful troika along with Modi and Shah, said he will review working of various wings and departments of the Ministry in the next one week so that adequate strategies could be finalised.

“Next one week, I have decided that I will have department-wise review, more detailed presentations would be made..I am going to study and then only I will develop my approach,” said Nadda, who was a health minister in Himachal Pradesh and is known to be part of major decision making processes in the party.

He held a meeting with top officials of his ministry.
