Gurgaon: Senior Rajasthan Congress leader and Union Labour Minister Sis Ram Ola passed away this morning after a prolonged illness at Medanta Hospital here. He was 83
Family members and relatives were with him, when he took his last breath at around 5:30 am.
Elected from Jhunjhnu, Ola was Labour Minister and later Mines Minister in UPA-1 government from 2004 till 2009. He again took over as Labour Minister in June this year, after Mallikarjun Kharge was shifted to Railways.
Born on July 30, 1927, Ola is a recipient of Padma Shri award for social work. He was elected MLA in Rajasthan assembly from 1957 to 1990, and became a cabinet minister in Rajastan from 1980 till 1990.
In 1993, he was against elected MLA in Rajasthan, and in 1996, he was elected to the Lok Sabha. He was appointed Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilizers in 1996-97. His son Bijender Ola was a minister in Rajasthan.
