Coimbatore, Mar 8: Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement (TTM) today said it would work for the defeat of chief ministerial candidates of all parties for the coming assembly elections if their manifesto did not include an assurance to lift the ban toddy tapping and its sale.
Though the political parties, particularly Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who had promised to 'take a good decision' on the issue at the time of last Lok Sabha polls, all of them were maintaining a silence once the elections were over, movement co-ordinator S Nallasamy told reporters here.
Based on Karunanidhi's promise, the movement had withdrawn its plan to distribute toddy at the World Tamil Classical Conference venue here last year.
He said the DMK Government had put on hold the recommendations of K P Sivasubramanian committee, which assessed various demands of palm and coconut growers.
As a first step to exert pressure for the closure of Indian Made Foreign Liquor sales outlets run by the state government, TTM volunteers would lay seige of TASMAC godown in the city on March 10, Nallasamy said. PTI
