New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has asked the Narendra Modi government to announce the implementation of One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme for retired armed forces personnel soon.

Sources said that the RSS also gave the option of creating a commission to look into the contentious issues like the one on yearly appraisal.

Government said that it will look into the options available with it and resolve the matter as early as possible. Close to 22 lakh retired servicemen and over six lakh war widows stand to be the immediate beneficiaries of the OROP scheme, which envisages a uniform pension for the defence personnel who retire in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.

The protest by ex-servicemen demanding OROP went on for the 80th day on Wednesday.

The matter came for discussion during a key meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates including BJP.

Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) reiterated its demand for construction of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya during the meet.

Media reports suggested that the VHP has asked the Modi government to clear its stand on the issue and make an announcement in this regard soon.

The top brass of the RSS and its affiliates are meeting today for a three-day coordination meeting to take stock of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government's one year in office and the challenges it faces.

The upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Gujarat's Patel community's ongoing agitation for caste-based based reservation will also be discussed.
