New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about allegations that Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami had tried to stall the arrest of Congress leader Mantang Sinh in connection with Saradha scam.

Singh apprised the Prime Minister on the issue after talking to Goswami and CBI Director Anil Sinha to get a factual picture about allegations that Goswami, a 1977 batch IAS officer from Jammu and Kashmir cadre, had interfered in CBI's work and made attempts to prevent arrest of Sinh on Saturday, official sources said.

The final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister who is now seized of the matter, they said.  Singh called the Home Secretary to his room in the morning and both of them remained closeted for nearly an hour.  After the meeting, Goswami refused to take any questions from the media.

This meeting was immediately followed by Singh calling CBI Director Anil Sinha, a 1979 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, who apparently briefed the Minister about the sequence of events that unfolded ahead of Sinh's arrest.  Sinha also refused to take any questions from the waiting media outside the office of the Home Minister.

The Director held a separate meeting with Goswami.  The CBI is believed to have sent a report to the Prime Minister's Office in this regard, sources in the agency said.  The Home Minister was briefed by officials after reports appeared in the media that a top ministry official had allegedly attempted to stop the arrest of Sinh who was picked up by CBI in Kolkata on Saturday.
