Chandigarh: Punjabi comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi today joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of senior party leader Sanjay Singh.
The induction of Ghuggi, who hails from Gurdaspur, will boost the AAP's confidence in Punjab prior to the 2017 assembly polls, Singh, who is also the in-charge of the party's state affairs, said.
"Ghuggiji has gained immense popularity in Punjab. He connects well with the people here. His entry into AAP will strengthen the party," Singh said.
Speaking to media, Ghuggi said that he always wanted to do something for the land and hence he decided to join Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP.
"I am an Aam Aadmi. I have seen their (AAP) report card and was impressed with their style of practical functioning. I have received so much of love and affection from the people here and hence I realised this is the right time to do something for them," the actor said.
He also invited former cricketer and BJP leder Navjot Singh Sidhu to join AAP.
Ghuggi is the second Punjabi actor to join the party after popular Punjabi comedian & MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann.
Ghuggi rose to fame after participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. The actor has also made appearances in several TV shows. He has acted as a comedian in Bollywood movies and Punjabi movies such as Singh Is Kinng, Namastey London, Race.
