New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met senior journalists and editors of both TV and print at BJP headquarters, 11 Ashoka Road, as a part of the Diwali Mangal Milan programme.

In his brief address, the Prime Minister said, "Festivals keep the society moving. If we see social and economic impact of our festivals then it could make a good story."

Party president Amit Shah and several top Union Ministers including Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani were also present on the occasion.

The party organised this Diwali Mangal Milan programme where at least 850 to 900 senior journalists from both TV and print were invited, a leader said.

The event was planned earlier but Modi's foreign trip and other engagements forced the party shift the date.

The interaction comes just a day after Modi reached out to the Opposition, and met Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh over tea to discuss issues that have been stalling the Parliament, including GST Bill.

This was also the second time when Modi met journalists after assuming the office in May 2014. Earlier, he had met journalists at the party headquarters on the occasion of Diwali Milan in the last week of October last year.
