Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a public interest litigation seeking directions for disqualification of all MPs who had allegedly shot off letters to the US President requesting him not to grant visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.  


A division bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Dilip Gupta turned down the PIL filed by an advocate Udit Chandra observing “no such relief can be granted by the High Court as per the Constitution”.  

While the US has been denying a visa to Modi, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, in the wake of the 2002 communal riots, controversy over the MPs' letter to American President Barack Obama had erupted last year.

However, many of Members of Parliament later claimed that the letters were sent to Washington with their “forged” signatures.
