Kolkata, Apr 3: Trinamool Congress and Congress are opposing the Left Front's policies irrespective of their merit just to dislodge the ruling front from power, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said.

The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre too is extending support to the Trinamool Congress chief for her support, to get all its anti-people policies in banking, insurance, pension and textile sectors passed, Bhattacharjee alleged at an election meeting.

Describing the coming election as a tough battle with a far-reaching nationwide impact, Bhattacharjee blamed the Centre for rise in the prices of essential commodities and criticised the Trinamool Congress for not protesting against it, despite being a partner in the UPA.

“Despite having seven ministers, including Mamata Banerjee in the UPA government, the Trinamool Congress has failed to perform in the interest of the people,” he said and warned against allowing the party to capture power in the state which would have disastrous consequences.

“Despite all attempts to dethrone us, we must prevent Trinamool Congress from capturing power and ensure return of the LF government for the eight term,” Bhattacharjee told the rally in his constituency Jadavpur.

The chief minister said, “The Trinamool Congress stands on the foundation of blatant lies and its leader herself is giving false assurances to voters on various railway projects in the state though the Railways have no funds to implement them. The Railways can't run this way.”

He alleged that Trinamool was instigating the statehood movement in Darjeeling as well as the Maoist movement at Jangalmahal to divide the state.

Saying he had tried his best to work for people in his constituency, the chief minister reassured people to remain accountable to people for all development work the government had undertaken.

He reminded people of the LF government's success in agriculture, land reforms and in the unorganised sector in the state and promised to work for rapid industrialisation. PTI
