New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted all workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the party's foundation day (sthapana diwas).

"On the BJP's 'Sthapana Diwas' my greetings to all the BJP Karyakartas and well-wishers," Modi said in a twitter post.

"BJP's phenomenal growth is due to the efforts & hardwork of generations of selfless Karyakartas who devoted their lives to our nation," Modi said in another twitter post.

Modi further said that the party will leave no stone unturned to fulfil people's aspirations.

"BJP will leave no stone unturned to fulfil people's aspirations & create an India that is strong, developed & inclusive," he said.

The BJP's origins lie in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, formed in 1951 by Syama Prasad Mookerjee. After the Emergency in 1977, the Jana Sangh merged with several other parties to form the Janata Party. The Janata party dissolved in 1980 with the members of the erstwhile Jana Sangh reconvening to form the BJP.

Recently, the party claimed that it is world's largest party with a membership strength of 8.8 crores, surpassing the Communist Party of China which has 8.6 crore members.
