Dehradun: The ruling Congress in Uttarakhand today accused the Narendra Modi Government of meting out step-motherly treatment to the state for political reasons.

“Neither the green bonus has been awarded to Uttarakhand nor any special budgetry provisions made for the state despite the fact that it suffered the worst natural calamity in its history last year.

This clearly shows the step-motherly treatment being meted out to the state,” PCC president Kishore Upadhyay told PTI.

He is presently touring the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the state for the first time after assuming office.  Upadhyay said he has asked party workers to reach out to people in the remotest areas and tell them about the “betrayal” by BJP, to which they gave all the five Lok Sabha seats from the state.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had renewed the state's demand for a green bonus of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre recently in recognition of the state's environment conservation efforts and its expansive green cover.

“However, the state is yet to to get a green bonus from the Centre.

Even the general budget and rail budget this year came as big disappointments for the rain-ravaged state which did not get anything in terms of new rail links or special packages to compensate it for the huge damages suffered in the deluge,” he added.
