New Delhi: After the eviction of Anil Goswami from home ministry, a  senior IPS officer posted with a paramilitary force has come under scanner for seeking favors for former Congress MP and minister Matang Sinh by calling a senior CBI officer.

The IPS is known to be very close to Goswami and was fully supported by him.

According to media reports, the officer has even asked his subordinates in Kolkata to make special arrangements for Sinh.

According to a Times of India report, the officer had called the CBI officer on Saturday, and asked the latter to not to take Sinh in custody.

The same officer reportedly made a strong bid last year for a crucial position in the probe agency however he did not succeed in his efforts.

The officer in question had full support from Goswami who was removed from the home secretary's position on Wednesday, nearly five months before his tenure was to end.

Reports suggest that Goswami had also played a crucial role in shifting the IPS officer from one paramilitary force to another without consensus of chiefs of either forces.

The then CBI director Ranjit Sinha had even opposed the inclusion of the officer in the panel drawn for the senior position.

It is learnt that  a report on the conduct of the officer has been sent to the Central government which will now decide whether to cut short the tenure of the IPS officer and shunted back to the state from where he was brought or to shift him to some insignificant post.
