Kolkata, Sep 26 ; West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today made a fresh appeal to the Centre for reducing fertilisers prices.




”... I had given some proposals for consideration of the central government. My request was to reduce the increased price of fertilisers which our farmers cannot afford.

”As a result, nutrition-based fertilisers are not being used by the farmers,” she said in a post on her facebook page on her address at the meeting of Committee of Chief Ministers
of Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India here.

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and agriculture ministers of seven eastern States were present at the meeting, official sources said.

”I had also suggested that agriculture sector should also have a single window system, as we have introduced in the industrial sector.

This will help the farmers in a big way, so that they are not harassed to make repeated visits to various organizations like banks, financial institutions, fertiliser and food departments, etc.”
It was also necessary that there should be proper coordination amongst all departments connected to the agriculture sector, she said.

If coordination meetings take place once in six months among departments like banking, agriculture, food, fertilisers, horticulture, animal resources the results, it would be ‘highly beneficial' to the cause of the agricultural production, Banerjee added.
