New Delhi: Refuting Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's claim that he was unaware of MLA Jitender Signh Tomar's fake law degree, Former Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav today said Kejriwal knew of Tomar's fake degree but did not conduct an inquiry.

Yadav claimed, "We had informed Arvind Kejriwal about Jitender Singh Tomar's fake degree in February. I am surprised. Now they are saying they were taken for a ride. Kejriwal did not even conduct an inquiry. We had raised issues about at least 25 candidates.”

A Delhi court on June 22 dismissed the  bail plea of ex-Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar and sendt him to 14 days judicial custody, in alleged fake degree case.Court said that allegations against Tomar are grave in nature as he is a public representative and an MLA.

Dismissing the plea, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tarun Yogesh extended his judicial custody till July 6. Delhi Police arrested Tomar on June 9, and charged him with forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

Tomar was in police custody after he was arrested on June 9. He has been charged under various IPC sections including 420 (cheating). He has also been charged under IPC sections 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery with purpose of cheating) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).

Tomar has sought bail on the ground that he has to attend Delhi's Assembly sessions commencing from June 23.

Tomar has found himself embroiled in a controversy over his law degree ever since he took charge as Delhi's Law Minister.

Tomar had earlier claimed that he received his law degree from a college in Muger affiliated to Bhagalpur's Tilka manjhi University but the University had informed the Delhi High Court that Tomar's law degree is fabricated. The institute had claimed that Tomar's law degree does not exist in their records.
