Kanpur, Oct 2: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley today slammed the UPA government for sending Income Tax notices to to two NGOs associated with team Anna member Kiran Bedi saying it was intolerant to criticism.

Those who had raised their voice against it were being harassed by its agencies, he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

“This government is intolerant to criticism and all those who have raised their voice against it are being harassed by its agencies,” Jaitley said.

The Income Tax department had yesterday sent notices for scrutiny to two NGOs associated with former police officer Kiran Bedi.

On IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's arrest, he said it was a law and order related matter.

Bhatt as an officer had pressurised his junior to sign a false affidavit and now the law was taking its own course, Jaitley said.

“No party should give it a political angle by supporting Bhatt now,” he said.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said there was a leadership crisis in the country despite him being a good economist.

“Though the PM is in office, he is not in power, Jaitley said.

“Due to this leadership crisis, this government is losing its balance. It may fall anytime and we need to be prepared for that,” he told party workers at the function.

Calling on BJP leaders and workers to remain united ahead of upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Jaitley said there was no such ball in the elections which could get the party out of the game.

But, the leaders needed to make sure they did not hit their own wickets, he said.

He said the voters were looking to the BJP with high hopes and it could easily win the elections provided the party leaders and workers remained united.

A clash broke out between supporters of party MLA Satish Mahana and leader Radheshyam Pandey over some issue in which three persons were injured.

A seriously injured supporter was admitted to a hospital. PTI
