Chandigarh: Former CWC member Jagmeet Brar, who snapped his 35-year-old ties with Congress, was “ungrateful” to the party for the opportunities it had given him, senior leader Amarinder Singh today said.

“Nevertheless it is good riddance,” he said while adding, “party will be better off without such leaders who are always driven more by opportunism than by any commitment.”

Reacting to Brar's allegations that Congress was reduced to “a mere self-serving family undertaking”, Amarinder, in a statement issued here, said, “He (Brar) has always changed parties for his personal interests with regular frequency.

“This is not the first time and this is not going to be the last time... as he changes parties regularly according to their fortunes,” he said.

Brar is a “classic chameleon” character in politics, the former Chief Minister alleged.

Ruing that Brar was ungrateful to the party, former Punjab Chief Minister said that despite facing several poll defeats, he was given the opportunity to contest and also made special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision making body of the party.
