New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah yesterday said that his government is committed to bring back black money stashed abroad.

He said that effective steps were being taken to fulfil the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring back every penny of blackmoney parked abroad.

"It was our election promise, we will make all efforts to get back blackmoney," Shah said at 'manthan' conclave organised by TV news channel Aaj Tak.

"Making a SIT on black money was the first decision of the Union Cabinet. We also got a bill in the budget session," he said.

Shah further said that the NDA government believed in transparency in politics and measures within the ambit of law are being taken on the matter.

Clarifying his controversial comment that getting back blackmoney was a political idiom, Shah said: "I meant the money will be used for national development, not that people will be given cheques".

Shah had said in an interview the promise of depositing Rs. 15 lakh in every account from the blackmoney that will be brought back was just a political 'jumla' (idiom).
