New Delhi: Former president R Venkataraman served India ‘tirelessly', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday as he paid tributes to him on his 104th birth anniversary.
"Tributes to former president R Venkataraman on his birth anniversary. He served India tirelessly through his long years in public life," the Prime Minister said in a tweet.
Venkataraman was born on December 4, 1910 in Rajamadam village in Tanjore district, Madras Presidency.
In 1984, he was elected the seventh Vice-President of India. He served as the eighth President of India from July 25, 1987 to July 25, 1992.
He died on January 27, 2009.
