New Delhi: Election Commission today announced the schedule to fill up a total of 11 vacancies in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council.  While eight vacancies arose due to retirement of sitting members, three other seats fell vacant after the MLCs were elected to the state assembly.

The polls will be held on March 2, for which the notification will be issued on February 12 and February 18 will be the last date of filing nominations. The scrutiny of papers will be held the next day.

Candidates can withdraw from the electoral battle by February 21. The counting will be held on March 2.  

M K Ajatshatru Singh (Jammu Province),  B R Kundal (Jammu Province), Syed Asgar Ali (Jammu Province), Narboo Gialchan ( Ladakh Tehsil of Kashmir Province), Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi (Kargil Tehsil of Kashmir Province), Vijay Bakaya (Kashmir Province), Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah (Kashmir Province) and Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy (Jammu Province) are retiring between March 9 and 16 necessitating the biennial election.  

The bypoll to the Legislative Council was necessitated after Mohammad Ashraf Mir (Kashmir Province), Abdul Majeed Bhat (Kashmir Province) and Devender Singh Rana (Jammu Province) were elected to the Legislative Assembly held last year.
