New Delhi: The Congress' Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and other party leaders were detained Saturday for protesting against power outages and water scarcity in the national capital, police said.

Around 200 Congress workers led by Lovely, Sajjan Kumar and Mukesh Sharma staged a demonstration in west Delhi's Nangloi area as the party continued its protest against power outages and water scarcity in Delhi.

They moved to the National Highway 10 but before they could disrupt the movement of vehicles, police used water cannons to disperse the mob of protestors who also tried to break through police barricades.

Some of the workers headed towards a nearby railway track in a bid to stop trains but were detained by Delhi Police and railway police personnel.

According to police, the leaders were detained at Mundka police station, west Delhi.

Meanwhile, Congress leader A.K. Walia warned that similar protests would continue in coming days.

"We are not going to stop our protests till the time Delhiites get respite from the crisis. We will keep protesting in coming days," Walia told reporters.

The Congress leaders have been protesting in different parts of the city against inconsistent power and water supply for the past few days.

On Friday, they protested outside the Bharatiya Janata Party office here while Thursday the leaders staged demonstration in south Delhi's Khanpur area. Congress legislator Jai Kishan with some residents held a protest in north Delhi's Sultanpuri area Wednesday.

The city's power supply was affected following a severe storm May 30 which snapped many lines of the Northern Grid.
