Kolkata: Two days after BJP President Amit Shah was denied permission to hold rally outside Victoria Hall, the party will today approach Calcutta High Court seeking permission for the same.

On Wednesday both the city corporation as well as the Fire Brigade refused to allow the BJP to hold rally outside the prestigious Victoria Hall in Kolkata.

"This must be a record in India...perhaps it can be entered in the Guinness book...we have gone to court three times to seek this venue," lashed out Rahul Sinha, BJP Chief in West Bengal.

The High Court had earlier asked the authorities to decide whether the rally should be allowed to go ahead by November 27.

The authorities however defended their stand on grounds of public welfare. The city police said that the rally would be inconvenient for commuters as major traffic intersection is located at the venue.

They also said that the BJP gave incomplete sketch of the stage they propose to build at the venue.

To this, Sinha pointed out that no such concern has ever been expressed for the Chief Minister's address to her party workers, held every July at the same venue. He added, “Let the corporation design the stage, we are fine with that”.
