Attacking the Congress-led Delhi government on repeated fire incidents involving DTC low floor buses, the Opposition BJP on Thursday demanded adequate safety measures in the city buses.

"The fire incidents in DTC buses are becoming a regular affair now because of inadequate safety measure. It is a matter of serious concern as common people travel in these buses," BJP MP Shahnawaj Hussain told reporters outside the parliament.

Demanding a proper mechanism to inspect the CNG kit before installing in low floor buses, he said government should look into the issue as it involves lives of poor people who travel in public transport.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Najma Heptullah making a scathing attack on Congress "aam admi" plank, said "It only shows that Congress has no concern for aam admi. Otherwise the government should have done something to prevent fire in DTC buses."

Coming to the rescue of Delhi Government, Delhi Congress President and MP J P Aggarwal said "low floor buses are good but incidents like fire can happen in other form of transport. These incidents does not mean we should replace the entire fleet of low floor buses."

There should be adequate safety measure and I am sure the city government is looking into it, Aggarwal said.

A low floor DTC bus caught fire on Thursday morning in Delhi and the vehicle was gutted. It was the third such incident in last six days. Delhi chief minister reviewed the safety of DTC buses at a meeting with Tata Motors and DTC officials. PTI
