Kolkata: BJP today gave a call for a “Trianmool-free” West Bengal after the 2016 Assembly polls and cautioned the ruling Trinamool Congress that if attacks against its party workers did not stop, there were constitutional ways to prevent it.

“Today we are giving a call to make a Trinamool-free Bengal by 2016. The real change will take place in 2016. The misrule and terror tactics of Trinamool has to be defeated.

Today from this rally, we are laying the foundation of the change that will take place after 2016,” said Siddharth Nath Singh, the party's central convener.

Singh launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool regime for failing to maintain law and order in the state during a “Bangla Banchao” rally in the city.

“Even after getting 34 seats by rigging and violence, why aren't you happy? Why is Trinamool attacking our party workers, why are they so restless? If Trinamool doesn't stop this anarchy, then there are Constitutional ways to stop it.

We will pursue those ways,” said BJP vice-president S S Ahluwalia who is also an MP from Darjeeling.

“They (TMC) should remember that the government at the Center is not of Manmohan Singh's but of Narendra Modi's,” he said.

The party announced at the rally that its chief ministerial candidate for the 2016 Assembly elections would be party state president Rahul Sinha. Sinha's name was announced by party general secretary Asim Sarkar.

Lashing out at the state government and the police for trying to disrupt the rally, Sinha claimed the Trinamool had convened a parallel rally without any prior notice.

“This huge rally and wide participation of the people show that they are with us and are fed up with TMC,” he said.
