Ahmedabad: Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Gujarat tomorrow, Congress today said the Narendra Modi government should be cautious in dealing with China considering the “bad experience” in the past.

“We welcome the Chinese president to Gujarat. But the Centre should not forget the bad experience when we had extended our hand of friendship (to China) at the time of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and during A B Vajpayee's tenure as the PM,” Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela said here today.

“Our experience with China has been negative. We cannot trust them,” he said, adding that though talks should continue, the government has to be cautious in dealing with China.

The Chinese President will visit Ahmedabad tomorrow and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed here from Delhi to welcome him.

“Just ahead of the Chinese President's visit, China has shown its true colours by intruding and beating up our soldiers in Ladakh,” Vaghela said.

Apart from business meet and signing of MoUs, Xi is scheduled to visit Sabarmati Ashram with Modi.

Both the leaders will head to Sabarmati riverfront for a walk in the evening, followed by dinner. The Chinese President will leave for Delhi at 7.30 PM.
