New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and sought his intervention in ensuring visible improvement in the law and order situation in the city, saying it has deteriorated rapidly.

Kejriwal, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, also discussed with Singh appointment of a new Chief Secretary for Delhi government as incumbent D M Spolia is set to retire tomorrow.

Sources said 1984 batch IAS officer R S Negi, currently serving as chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, 1979-batch IAS officer Anand Prakash and NCR Planning Board member Secretary Naini Jayaseelan are in the race for the top post in Delhi government.

Kejriwal is understood to have apprised the Home Minister his government's choice for the next Chief Secretary.

In the meeting, Kejriwal strongly expressed his concern over “deteriorating” law and order situation in the city and requested the Union Home Minister to direct the Delhi Police to improve its functioning, the sources said.

The chief minister is believed to have apprised Singh about the a clash at Burari last week in which two AAP MLAs were among those booked by police.

The AAP had alleged that the police did not register a case against those involved in allegedly molesting two kids which triggered the clash. Kejriwal has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

Kejriwal expressed unhappiness over the overall law and order situation in the city and requested Singh to issue necessary directions to Delhi Police which functions under the direct control of Home Ministry.
