New Delhi: A day after Delhi's sanitation workers called off their strike, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today took part in a cleanliness drive in various parts of the city.

AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Alka Lamba were among other few bigwigs of the party who were seen cleaning loads of litter and rubbish scattered all over the roads.

Sanjay Singh said the issue should not be politicised and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, all Delhi Mayors and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should go together to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss problems being faced by the Municipal Corporations Delhi (MCD).

"When Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, we all became a part of it. I would like to appeal to all municipal corporation mayors to not make the people of Delhi suffer. Rahul Gandhi, mayors and CM of Delhi should all go together to PM and talk about the MCD issue," Sanjay Singh said.

Residents of various colonies dismissed the AAP leaders attempt to clean the roads of Delhi as just a photo opportunity.

AAP MLA from Krishna Nagar, SK Bagga, was barred by the residents of his constituency from taking cleaning the roads. He took the opportunity to hit out at the BJP saying, "Now BJP is trying to take a revenge on people of Delhi because they did not vote for them."

AAP leader Aashish Khetan, amidst protest by residents, too echoed the same view. He said. "Who created this crisis? Who bankrupted the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)? Delhi will be cleaned when MCD is free of corruption."

Another AAP leader Ashutosh said that it was to be pondered over why the MCD is considered to be so corrupt. He said, "A permanent solution needs to be found out for MCD workers, added Ashutosh."
Sanitation workers of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EMCD) had stayed off duty for the last 10 days over non-payment of salaries and the strike saw garbage piling up on the roadsides in many east Delhi localities.
Meanwhile, the BJP and Congress together have come down heavily on the AAP leaders today's exercise terming it 'nautanki' (drama).

BJP Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay blamed Kejriwal for the stinking mess.

"Kejriwal is only doing politics and not bothered about governance," he said.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh tweeted: "AAP starts cleanliness drive after Sanitation Workers strike has been called off. Photo ops for AAP. Modi and Kejriwal are Masters of नौटंकी"
