New Delhi: In a move that can reignite the debate over who should control Delhi Police, the new AAP government today said that it will try to bring the Traffic Police under its ambit to improve the traffic situation in the national capital.

The erstwhile Congress government led by Sheila Dikshit had also made efforts to assume control over the police which comes under the Union Home Ministry during her 15-year-long rule but without success.

“We will make efforts to bring Traffic Police under the Delhi government's ambit,” Transport Minister Gopal Rai said here.

Noting that finding a solution to Delhi's traffic woes was among the government's priorities, he said that this step will help better manage the city's traffic.

“I have called a meeting of senior Traffic Police officials on Friday in which we will discuss ways of managing the traffic problem,” Rai said.

According to the government, it will also study good traffic systems and replicate these in Delhi so that people's don't have to face problems due to poor traffic management here.

On complaints of drivers of e-rickshaws after these vehicles came under the ambit of Motor Vehicles Act, he said,

“We have set up a 7-member committee of AAP's volunteers to look into the issue. If need be, we will approach the Centre.”

The government has also plans to open a skill development centre to train unskilled people to enable them to earn their livelihood.

“My second priority will be to provide employment to the unskilled class. I have plans to open a skill development centre where people can be trained in different fields,” Rai said.
