New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party government has decided to build a memorial of Gajendra Singh who died at a rally held by the party last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced today.

Kejriwal, who  distributed the compensation cheques to farmers who have suffered crop loss due to unseasonal rain in Outer Delhi's Bawana area, said that Gajendra sacrificed his life which made central and state governments think about farmers' issue.

“Government will soon build a memorial of Gajendra. We will also give job to a member of his family,” Kejriwal told a gathering of farmers.

Delhi government has named the farmer compensation scheme ‘Gajendra Singh Kisan Sahayta Yojana' after the Rajasthan based farmer who had allegedly hanged himself at an AAP rally at Jantar Mantar last month.

He also appealed to central and state governments to come forward to help farmers in case their crops are damaged due to natural disaster.

“All state and central governments should support farmers whose crops are damaged due to natural calamity,” he said.  Reiterating his stand pertaining to Gajendra's death, the Delhi Chief Minister said that the tree was far from the stage and due to the branches we couldn't see what was happening on the tree.

According to Delhi government official, farmers who have suffered crop loss of 70 per cent and above will be given a compensation of Rs. 20,000 per acre while those below it would be given a minimum compensation of Rs. 14,000 per acre.  Any dispute arising between government officials and farmers on the quantum of crop loss will be resolved in Gram Sabha nearest to the land of the affected farmer, a government official said.

Kejriwal said that the compensation being given to farmers by the AAP government was the “highest ever” compensation.  CM also said that he has learnt that some state governments have distributed cheques of Rs 100, but AAP government is giving a compensation of Rs. 20,000 per acre.
