New Delhi: The Bihar police today arrested a man for allegedly throwing a slipper at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Incidentally, the youth involved in the act also goes by the name of Nitish Kumar.
The incident occurred when the youth came to meet the CM to hand over his request at ‘Janata ke Darbar mein Mukhya Mantri’, a programme wherein the chief minister listens and addresses public grievances.
Reports said that the accused, a resident of Arwal district, was arrested as he bent down to take off his slipper and was immediately caught by a posse of security men.
However, reacting to the incident later, Nitish Kumar said, "He threw his chappal at me and it hit me. He was apparently angry over the state government’s recent advisory against use of fire for cooking and hawan etc between 9 AM to 6 PM to curb increasing incidents of fire."
The decision by authorities came after a series of fire-related incidents in Bihar’s villages in recent days. Nitish, unfazed by the attack, said he would enforce the order come what may.
“This (public anger) doesn’t mean that I’ll stop giving the right advice, even if someone shoots me,” he added.
Later, Nitish could be seen sitting next to his namesake and listening to his problem and why he resorted to such an act.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj told reporters the youth has been arrested and taken to Sachivalaya police station for detailed questioning.
It emerged that the youth arrested had created ugly scenes earlier too at the ‘Janata Darbar’ programme of senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi recently.
