Kerala: LDF wrests power from UDF, BJP opens its account

Thiruananthpuram: As counting begins in Kerala, the early trends are going in favour of Left Democratic Front. LDF was leading in 64 seats, UDF in 53 seats and NDA opening it account with a lead

Thiruananthpuram: With the latest trends it's clear now that CPI(M) led Left Democtaic Front will form the next government in Kerala. The LDF has either won or is leading in 85 seats.

It is clean sweep for the Left coalition in Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kannur.

The LDF has also managed to make inroads into the UDF strongholds of Ernakulam and Malappuram.

Besides, left backed independent candiadtes are also leading in their respective constituencies.

Meanwhile, BJP is leading in two assembly seats,  Cricketer Sreesanth was trailing at the third spot in his Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the Kerala assembly elections.

State health minister VS Shivakumar looked set to retain the seat.

" In Kerala, the persistence of the Party has paid off today & we will become an even stronger voice of the people," PM Modi said in a tweet.

Former finance minister KM Mani has won in his home constituency of Pala with a margin of over 4,000 votes.

CPI candidate V.S.Sunil Kumar has won from Thrissur. He defeated UDF candidate Padmaja Venugopal by 6987 votes.

K.Raju of CPI wins from Punalur by a margin of 33,000 plus votes.

Actor Mukesh, who is contesting on behalf of CPI(M) is leading in Kollam.

For the Congress led United Democratic Front, it’s the battle for retaining power.

UDF’s PT Thomas  is leading by 675 votes Thrikkakara, Parakkal Abdulla (UDF) is leading in Kuttiyadi, Cong candidate Padmaja Venugopal is trailing in Thrissur, A Pradeep Kumar, LDF, leads in Kozhikode north, itting MLA K Dasan leads in Koyilandy, Chittayam gopakumar of CPI leads by 1875 votes in Adoor, Raju Abraham leads by175 votes in Ranni, Mathew T Thomas of LDF leads by 883 votes in Thiruvalla, Suresh Kurup (CPI-M) leading at Ettumanur.

The early trend in Kerala went in favour of Left Democratic Front (LDF)which was leading in 18 seats, UDF in 7, others 1, NDA still to open it's account.

Actor and Former Minister Ganesh Kumar (LDF) was leading by 70 votes (postal ballots) in Pathanapuram constituency in Kollam (Kerala).

Despite rains, the State recorded 77.35 per cent polling, highest being Kozhikode and lowest Pathanamthitta.
