New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi has prepared a draft bill for statehood of the national capital.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today informed that his government has drafted the bill and the same will be uploaded on the website to seek public opinion.

"Draft bill for statehood of Delhi ready. Will be soon placed in public domain for comments and suggestions from the public," Kejriwal tweeted.

Delhi is a Union Territory and enjoys the unique status of a city-state with a legislative assembly but limited powers of the state government.

Unlike other states it has no control over police, land and civic bodies, which are controlled by the Centra government through Governor.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been batting for full statehood for Delhi, claiming the move will help him implement his plans better in the city.

Last year, a C-voter survey has revealed that as many as 81% of the residents of the national capital want full statehood for Delhi.

According to the survey, 81 per cent of more than 3,000 Delhiites polled said they would vote for full statehood if a referendum on the issue was held on Monday.

Among the respondents were both those who had voted for BJP and Congress and people cutting across caste, class and gender lines supported the full statehood demand.
