New Delhi: On the occasion of the mega event of the BJP-led NDA government to mark two years in power, the Congress party has come out all guns blazing against the government saying their tenure of two years have lacked substance and the celebrations are hollow.

The Congress party today said that the NDA government is celebrating “without achieving anything in terms of governance”.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, alleged that the ruling coalition failed to control the price of an essential commodity like pulses, but is smart enough to make money due to the falling prices of the crude oil in the international market in the name of excise duty.

"The BJP is celebrating without having achieved anything. The nation needs to know what they have done for the welfare of the people. The public should be well aware of the contributions BJP claims to have made in the economic sector," he said.

Hitting out at the BJP for calling the Modi government a 'decisive and corruption-free regime', Kharge cited scams including Vyapam, Lalitgate and Bank of Baroda forex scam.

"Even in Gujarat, the petro-chemical corporation has spent nearly 20,000 crore. Is it not corruption, after all?" he asked.

On drought situation, senior party leader P Chidambaram said that the government could have used money to refurbish the drought-hit areas and released the debts of the farmers.

“Government is not the cause of the drought, but they should be able to anticipate and tackle the situation,” he said.

Chidambram also dared Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to ‘place proof of any in court of law against his family’. He was responding to Jaitley’s earlier claim that he was ready to present evidence regarding serving and former CMs and Congress heavyweights in Parliament so that it can be debated.

On Republican party’s rising star and Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley remark that US businesses were ‘nervous about investing in India’, he said, “It's not easier but it's more difficult as all things are centralised and atmosphere of suspicious. I think Haley is right.”

On today’s programme, he said, “BJP ally Shiv Sena has not joined so called celebrations, in fact they are critical.”

“Where are the jobs? That's the most notable failures of the Modi government,” he noted.

When asked about BJP MP Subramanian Swamy remarks on RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, Chidambaram said, “UPA government appointed one of the finest economists and we have full faith in him even now.”

Swamy has written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding his immediate removal from the RBI role. He has alleged that Rajan’s policies were not correct and thus anti-national in intent. Rajan's tenure is scheduled to end in early September.

The Modi government is organising a mega event titled 'Badhtey Kadam’ today at the iconic India Gate featuring Bollywood biggies to celebrate NDA government's second anniversary.

When quizzed about MoS for Home, Kiren Rijiju’s charges that the erstwhile regime was working in tandem with the Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Ishrat Jahan case, Chidambaram sarcastically replied, “Yes we had breakfast with LeT and invited them for dinner too. These are irresponsible remarks.”
