DMK president and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi was today admitted to a hospital for undergoing a minor procedure. The 93-year-old leader has been ailing since last year and was being treated at his Gopalapuram residence here.

“The former chief minister has been admitted for a minor procedure - change of (Percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy) PEG tube. He will be discharged from the hospital later today," Kauvery Hospital Executive Director S Aravindan said in a statement.

Karunanidhi, 94, has been facing health issues since last October and has not participated in any public function since then. He was diagnosed with allergy caused by a drug he had been using and was advised rest.

The DMK patriarch was also unable to cast his vote in the July 17 Presidential election.

In December, he received a week-long treatment for breathing difficulty caused by throat and lung infections and has been recuperating at his home in Chennai since then.
